In three years, Ecuador has received USD 7,794 million through agreements and aid with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Since 2019, two Agreements have been signed. The second has already been reviewed and approved by the Board, it is expected this week to know the Letter of Intent.
So far, the disbursements executed by the IMF amount to USD 6,994 million, but a new disbursement for USD 800 million will arrive in the next few hours, after last week a review of the existing agreement was approved since 2020.
The resources granted by the multilateral organization give a certain respite to the fiscal coffers, given the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
With the government of Lenín Moreno, the country resumed its relationship with the IMF and, in 2019, the then Minister of the Economy, Richard Martínez, made the first Agreement with the entity.
According to the current Minister of Economy and Finance, Simón Cueva, the disbursement of USD 800 million will be immediate and will allow the opening of new financing with other organizations.
Cueva indicated that the approval of the agreement shows that Ecuador is acting in a responsible, transparent and serious manner in its economic management.
He added that the support of the multilateral organization will allow access to financing with other entities.
