Chinese city resorts to lockdown due to Covid-19 outbreak

Beijing, Sep 22 (Prensa Latina) China’s northeastern city of Harbin on Wednesday resorted to lockdown and raised the health alert level due to a new Covid-19 outbreak that reported at least eight cases in recent hours.

The local Government urged people to avoid travels, suspended transportation, closed indoor public places and restricted the number of visitors to others.

The first three patients with Covid-19 were detected in Bayan county of Harbin on Tuesday and the neighborhoods where those people live were locked down.

It is unclear if this outbreak, caused by the Delta variant of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, is related to the one that has been affecting several cities in eastern Fujian province for several days.

In general, China has accumulated at least 5,688 deaths and 124,232 contagions in its mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan since the disease, caused by the aforementioned coronavirus, was detected in December 2019.
