Haitian PM vows to restore peace

Port-au-Prince, Sep 27 (Prensa Latina) Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry vowed Monday to restore peace at homes and harmony in families, while the country is currently facing up a violence rise, especially in its capital.

The neurosurgeon assured the Government works ‘hard’ to crack down on insecurity and stressed the need to hold snap elections as soon as possible.

Henry’s remarks came 24 hours after the assassination of Deacon Sylner Lafaille at the First Baptist Church in downtown Port-au-Prince.

Armed men stormed into the church, killed the priest, kidnapped his wife and shot other worshipers, leaving several wounded.

‘Following this tragedy at the Baptiste de la Reunion church in Port-au-Prince, branded as a sacred place and an inviolable spot, no rights are protected,’ the Citizen Protection Office said, asking authorities to recognize its ‘failure’ in safety matter.

‘Major causes continue to be impunity, poor governance, lack of political will linked to cretinism of current leaders.’

In the last week, Haiti has been plunged into a wave of violence with more than a dozen abductions reported by local media including a doctor, a Treasury employee and a former military for whom th armed groups are requesting $6 million for his release.
