Guillermo Lasso, President of Ecuador, commemorated those who lost their lives due to COVID19 during the “9 million thanks” event. He thanked the countries that made vaccination possible in 100 days and referred to the proximity to return to normality in the country.
He recalled that the images of the first days of the pandemic in the country cannot be erased: bodies in the streets, overflowing hospitals, improvised mass graves.
“We were a model for the mismanagement of the health crisis. Those scenes were the representation of the abyss into which we fell after 14 years of corruption and wrong policies, “he said.
“Big problems, big solutions”, quoted Lasso, who recalled that an ambitious campaign promise was launched: 9 million Ecuadorians vaccinated in the first 100 days of government.
“Many doubted, some wanted to discredit the proposal, others simply called it demagogic, but the Ecuadorian people trusted us and, upon taking office on May 24, we clearly said that we were beginning the largest logistical mobilization- health in the history of our beloved country, “he said.
100 days later I can assure you that the 9-100 Vaccination Plan will appear in the Ecuadorian history books as a great success in the fight against COVID19, Lasso insisted.
“This merit belongs to the Ecuadorian people (…) the Ecuadorian people are the best people that a President can aspire to govern,” he stressed.
During the process, according to Lasso, the citizens “have shown a myriad of civic virtues, they have demonstrated their discipline, their good will and their strength, their collaboration and also their constructive criticism to help this Government fulfill its objective” .
In his speech, he thanked Spain, Canada, Chile, the United States, and especially China, and President Xi Jinping.
“THEY UNDERSTOOD OUR EMERGENCIES, THEY PROVIDED US WITH MORE THAN 65% OF THE VACCINES”
Regarding the Phoenix Plan, the President thanked the 3,000 members of the Armed Forces who will intervene in the process.
“We will invest $ 629 million in this phase to bring the vaccine to those who live in remote or inaccessible places”
Regarding the vaccination of children and adolescents between the ages of 12 and 15, Lasso said that, with this, the foundation will be laid for a return to normalcy.
“For face-to-face work, attendance at schools, colleges and universities, the use of public transport, sports activities and everything that entails returning to normality and reactivating the economy”,
In just over 100 days, what was previously delay turned into speed, where before there was a shortage, now there is an abundance of vaccines and what was previously corruption, today is proudly an honest, complete, clean and transparent process, commented the President Lasso.
