Storm Ida turns into a category one hurricane

(Prensa Latina) Storm Ida turned on Friday into a category one hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale, after a reconnaissance plane registered maximum winds of 120 kilometers per hour and a central pressure of 987 hectoPascals.

The location of the meteorological phenomenon was estimated at 21.4 degrees north latitude and 82.4 degrees west longitude. A position that places it 10 kilometers east of Punta del Este, special municipality of Isla de la Juventud, with a translation movement of 24 kilometers per hour to the northwest.

The Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology of Cuba (INSMET) warned that hurricane winds will affect the provinces of Mayabeque, Artemisa and Havana (west) and areas of rainfall to the central and eastern regions, which became strong in the south of those territories.
