The Vice Minister of Human Mobility, Carlos Alberto Velástegui, announced that a commission will work to withdraw the temporary suspension of the visa for Ecuadorians, ordered by the Government of Mexico.
The decision to require, again, a visa to those who visit Mexico was ordered for several reasons. Among them, the official said, risky migration and the country’s economic condition. He reported that in recent months, 7 out of 10 Ecuadorians have been detained by the border patrol for attempting to cross into the United States irregularly.
“It is not that they have not returned, but that she was detained by the North American patrol. In addition, there is an active presence of risky migration by transnational mafias ”, he added.
However, it is not a final decision. Therefore, a commission will be formed with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Government, initially. Other State institutions will join progressively, according to the issues that are being discussed.
He hopes that this process will be agile so that both States have a favorable response in the visa waiver. The official explained that the deadline to be able to restore the benefit of traveling without a visa is until March 4, 2022.
He explained that they work with specific actions between both nations and maintain the exchange of immigration information for the corresponding controls.
All the agreements with Mexico, on immigration matters, are still in force, said the official, specifying that the Commission’s job will be to analyze the documents that may be requested so that both countries can have control capacity.
He said that the table will be activated immediately, but they have yet to define the officials involved and the issues to be discussed, and then set the date for the meeting with the Mexican authorities.
