In 2019 Latin America experienced unprecedented wave of migration

Since January, Latin America experienced an unprecedented wave of migration, which was marked by two large-scale events: the journey of Venezuelan citizens to other nations such as Ecuador, Colombia, and Peru and from the countries of Central America to the United States and Mexico.

Mexico faced an unprecedented migration phenomenon: according to official data, between January and March more than 300,000 people illegally crossed the country to the United States.

In September 2019, the United States and El Salvador signed an immigration cooperation agreement as “part of a strategy to combat organized crime and reduce illegal and human trafficking, as well as forced migration.”

In December the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) announced the repatriation of 840 Ethiopian citizens who were stranded in Saudi Arabia.
