Ecuador registers 187 confirmed cases of the delta variant

Contagion by the Delta variant of the coronavirus in the country is community-based and cases continue to increase. This Thursday, August 19, the Ministry of Health confirmed the increase in eight new Delta cases, bringing the number of infected people to 187.

Of the eight new cases, three were detected in Galapagos, a province that until yesterday had no infections from this variant; four in Pichincha; and one in Carchi.

In this way, the Delta variant is already found in 13 provinces of Ecuador, distributed as follows:

Faced with the spread of Delta cases, the State portfolio has increased the lifting of epidemiological fences with each of the patient’s contacts; as well as community epidemiological monitoring and surveillance.

In addition, to avoid an increase in contagion, hot neighborhoods where infections of the variant have been identified will be recognized; In these areas, test points have been located to determine where the patients come from.

The authorities will carry out a rapid monitoring of the vaccine, through an action plan that evaluates the inoculation process in these areas. In addition, in hot neighborhoods the vaccination rate will be increased, identifying the lack of second doses or people without vaccination, to complete the inoculation scheme.

On the other hand, on the Alpha variant, also of concern, the Ministry detailed that 12 new cases have been identified, so the figure rises to 233 cases nationwide; While of the Gamma variant, 10 new cases are registered, so that the infections with this variant amount to 244.
