The president of the republic, Guillermo Lasso, announced that Ecuador will join any effort to provide protection and humanitarian aid to families displaced by the crisis in Afghanistan.
This was reported this Thursday, August 19, through his social networks in which he specified that help will be given especially to women who are forced to evacuate with their children.
Lasso’s pronouncement is issued after three days, since last Monday, August 16, that the Taliban took over Kabul, after 20 years of war in Afghanistan.
“We must extend our collaboration to uphold universal values such as solidarity, human rights, especially of women, children and people in vulnerability,” said Lasso.
Without giving more details on how this humanitarian aid will be provided, the head of state considered that the Afghan crisis “should be a cause for alert for the entire international community, regardless of the geographical situation.”
