Interpol Denies Red Alert Request Against Rafael Correa

This is the third request that the entity has rejected, considering that it has political purposes.

The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) denied, once again, a request for red alert requested against the former president of the Republic, Rafael Correa, on May 6, 2021, by Judge Walter Macías.

The document, dated August 16, shows that the Ecuadorian justice request was rejected because Interpol considered that Ecuador’s requests were not attached to the scope of cooperation of the world’s police agencies, but rather for the purpose of political character.

In addition, it explained that “in view of the elements at its disposal, the Commission considered that the data relating to the applicant registered in the INTERPOL Information System (IIS) raised serious doubts as to its compliance with article 2 of the Interpol Statute” .

Given this, it was determined that it is inappropriate to make effective cooperation within the universal spirit of Human Rights.

This is the third time that the entity has rejected the request of the Ecuadorian justice to issue an order of this type against the former president.

Similarly, the entity also denied the requests made by the Ecuadorian justice against Walter Solís and Vinicio Alvarado.
