The Ministry of Health will declare the emergency focused on the public network hospital system, given the shortage of drugs for patients with cancer and other aggravating diseases.

This was announced by the Minister of Health, Ximena Garzón, in a conversation with the media in which she explained that it is expected, in five months, to supply 123 essential drugs for cancer patients and with catastrophic diseases.

She explained that this emergency will last 60 days, starting this Wednesday; While from next August 24, the phase of progressive supply to 135 first, second and third level hospitals in nine areas of the country will begin.

“It is a health emergency that will allow us to supply ourselves, it will last 60 days and will allow us to have enough drugs at the health unit level to continue implementing a long-term, transparent and legal plan,” she stressed. Waiter.

For his part, Miguel Moreira, Deputy Minister of Comprehensive Health Care, explained that the budget that Health has for the purchase of these drugs is USD 43 million, which will be centralized, through contracting processes with the National Public Procurement Service (Sercop), through calls for suppliers.
