Social and indigenous organizations announce mobilizations in Ecuador

The Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE) announced that it will accompany the national mobilization, called by social organizations such as the FUT or the UNE, scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11.

At a press conference, the organization referred to the strengthening of its bases and called for unity between the Pachakutik Movement and CONAIE, since their leaders assured that they do not recognize any other political bloc other than Pachakutik.

The president of CONAIE, Leonidas Iza; the president of ECUARUNARI, Carlos Sucuzhañay; and the national coordinator, Marlon Santi.

The leaders supported the mobilizations called by social organizations for this Wednesday and emphasized that it is the decision of President Guillermo Lasso to meet the needs of the Ecuadorian people or to travel the path of former President Lenín Moreno.

«All the issues announced at this time we do from the harsh reality that Ecuadorians live. President Guillermo Lasso will make the decision to walk the path of former President Moreno, or to really listen to the people, “Iza stressed.

The authorities of the indigenous movement did not rule out the dialogue with the president, as long as there is a formal invitation; however, they rejected that the government continue with Moreno’s policies, conditioned, they said, by the International Monetary Fund.

Iza recognized the progress of the vaccination process, but added that in economic matters the country is going through a deep crisis.
