This will be the result of a new immigration strategy by President Joe Biden amid criticism from GOPers and Democrats about his management on this issue as many people continue reaching the US-Mexico border.
The 21-point plan published on Tuesday by the White House criticizes former President Donald Trump’s immigration policies and warns that a change will not be achieved ‘overnight.’
With these measures, current administration authorizes asylum officers to rule on entering the country, which means that applicants will not have to wait for immigration courts, which have accumulated more than 1.2 million cases.
Therefore, those who rejected will be deported to their countries of origin.
About 189,000 asylum-seekers were detained in June, accounting for a 4.5% rise compared to May, as the largest number of asylum-seekers in more than two decades was reported.
