More losses for retirees and pensioners predicted in Uruguay

(Prensa Latina) Daniel Baldassari, secretary general of Uruguay’s National Organization of Retirees and Pensioners (ONAJPU), on Monday warned that there will be more losses in purchasing power for them with the Government’s budget project in Parliament.

The ONAJPU demands that the adjustment that has been carried out for four years in July continues and this time for those with a minimum income of around 400 dollars, insufficient to the rise in the cost of living.

Baldassari also denounced that just to maintain the purchasing power of retirement and minimum pensions, more than 25 dollars should have been increased.

The Organization held a rally last week in front of the Executive Tower to deliver a memorandum of demands and a request for an interview to President Luis Lacalle Pou.

Baldassari predicted that the Executive Power guidelines for salaries and pensions will continue on the same path of loss of family incomes and requested a meeting at the Ministry of Labor.
