Syria denounces water cut by Turkey to one million citizens

(Prensa Latina) The People’s Assembly (Parliament) on Thursday denounced in front of counterpart entities in the world and international organizations that Turkey deprives almost a million people of drinking water in northeast Syria.

We call to pressure the Turkish Government so that its forces illegally in Syrian territory allow water reaches civilians, Hamouda Sabbagh, Speaker of Parliament, denounced in letters addressed to the Secretary General of the United Nations, the High Commissioner for Rights Human and the presidents of 46 parliaments.

Syria previously deplored what it called a water war by the Turkish Government by depriving hundreds of thousands of residents in Hasakah and surrounding communities of water by disrupting the operation of the A’llouk water station, located in the Ras Al-Ain, dominated by the Turkish soldiers and related extremists.

Syrian authorities also accused Ankara of reducing the flow of the Euphrates River and assured that the amount of water Syria reaches is far below to what is stipulated in the agreement signed between the two countries and deposited in the General Secretariat of the United Nations.
