Uruguayan jurists on strike over Covid-19 measures

(Prensa Latina) The Association of Judicial Officials of Uruguay (AFJU) reacted today with a 24-hour strike against the total return to face-to-face service without considering the health emergency due to Covid-19 in the country.

A previous communiqué from the union announced that it was declaring itself in ‘preconflict’ with the Supreme Court of Justice for considering that it ignored the recommendations of the Public Health Ministry to maintain for the time being ‘the bubbles that were working’.

The jurists argue lack of response to a proposal of protocols which establishes maximum capacity and disinfection of offices, and to maintain the work in groups which alternate to attend physically since, due to the nature of their work, they cannot do it remotely.

So far, the teleworking measures in the public sector are maintained, and the closing of offices in the municipalities, entities and companies is encouraged.

On the other hand, from today, the government enabled public shows, parties and social events and the reopening of food courts in commercial complexes, amateur sports practices, and movie theaters, except in the departments of Montevideo and Canelones, scheduled for July 15.

According to the MSP, in the last 24 hours 547 new cases were detected in 7,602 tests performed and 11,600 active patients, 203 of them in critical care centers, in addition to 26 deaths for a total of 5,689.
