(Prensa Latina) The French company Microphyt on Friday announced the beginning of the construction of a microalgae biorefinery for the nutrition and cosmetics sectors, which will be the first of its kind worldwide.
It will be the first of its kind because it is based on the development of a technology for the production of a wide variety of microalgae species at the industrial level, from which active principles are extracted for food and hygiene products through an ecological process.
According to this company, the cultivation of water plants is carried out with renewable energy sources, without using genetically modified organisms or pesticides, and CO2 is consumed and recycling actions are increased.
Some of the products that Microphyt will sell from the natural ingredients obtained will be for the prevention of cognitive deterioration related to old age, joint pain, liver metabolism and prediabetes, and two in the field of cosmetics.
The construction of the refinery will be carried out in three phases over three years, gradually increasing the production capacity. It has a 15-million-euro subsidy from the European Commission and the Bio-based Industries Consortium, and a total sum of 24 million euros will be invested in it.
