President of Mexico: Morena party consolidates victory in elections

(Prensa Latina) The Morena official party and the Juntos Hacemos Historia (Together We Make History) alliance consolidated their victory in recent elections, having won 186 out of the country’s 300 disputed districts, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said.

The President praised the way the citizens acted and the cleanliness of the elections, although he recognized disagreements that are commonplace and are being legalized via the normal method, and congratulated each of the new governors of the government coalition.

During his morning press conference at the National Palace he said there is no protest movement as there once was, and that is good news, because advances have been made for the people to elect freely their authorities.

Perez Obrador refuted once again the goals of the campaign on the qualified majority and recalled that at no point did Morena have a qualified majority neither in Senate nor at the Chamber of Deputies, and therefore it did not lose at all, as the opposition lies.

In his words, the official alliance retains the majority at the Chamber of Deputies owing to Morena’s 197 seats, the Labor Party’s 40, and the Green Party’s 44, thus making it 281, when only 251, that is, the half plus one, are needed.

This majority ensures the approval of the budget, which is the most important of everything, the President said.

Lopez Obrador projected the statistics of the National Elections Institute and reminded that the coalition headed by Morena obtained 11 out of the 15 governances being disputed, plus one for its ally, the Green Party.
