The former Minister of Government, María Paula Romo, did not appear to render her free and voluntary version, in the third call made by the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), within the case of excessive use of force and attempted bribery to silence to one of the October 2019 victims.
The case stems from the complaint filed by Assemblywoman Jhajaira Urresta, who lost an eye due to the impact of a tear gas canister during the October 2019 protests.
Romo’s lawyer justified the absence of the former official, arguing that she did not have internet in Washington, United States.
Urresta criticized that the former minister did not explain what happened in October of that year, when she was in charge of the National Police.
Prosecutor’s Office will attempt a fourth face-to-face call to a locker in the country and in Washington, the former minister’s place of residence since she was dismissed in November 2020.
“Personally, it leaves me with a bitter taste that I do not have an answer from justice, but I know that I have the truth and the former minister flees to the truth and flees to justice,” said the assemblywoman on June 1, to Pichincha Universal. The process is in preliminary investigation.
Urresta presented this complaint for excessive use of force and the attempted bribery due to her silence.
The legislator reported that, on October 29, 2019, at 4:00 p.m., she was summoned in Romo’s office. “The former minister, through an intermediary, sent for me. My mother accompanied me, ”she commented.
“What did she want and how much did she want?” Were the questions that Romo would have asked to prevent him from continuing with the legal actions against her.
Urresta also denounced, after having refused to receive this bribe, police harassment against her and against her family, also death threats and even a suspicious assault that she brought to the attention of the authorities.
