Ten Ecuadorian athletes to compete at Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games

(Prensa Latina) Ten Ecuadorian athletes have been confirmed on Sunday to compete at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, slated from Aug.24 to Sept.5.
The participation of the Ecuadorian delegation was announced by the Ecuadorian Paralympic Committee (CPE), which also mentioned that it might include another athlete in its team.

Jordi Congo, Poleth Mendes and Anais Mendez will represent this country in shot put, whereas Anderson Colorado and Damian Carcelen will run 400 meters.

In addition, Darwin Castro, with visual impairment, will run 5,000 and 1,500 meters, and will be guided by Sebastian Rosero and Diego Arevalo, Darwin Castro’s guide.

Kiara Rodriguez will run 100 meters and compete in long jump, a competition in which Roberto Chala will also participate.

According to CPE, sports authorities are waiting for the confirmation of swimmer Erick Tandazo, 18, who specializes in 400, 100 and 50 meters freestyle, as the 11th member of the team.

The Ecuadorian delegation is made up of 25 people, that is, athletes, directors and technical staff, whose mission is to fulfill the long-lasting dream of bringing an Olympic medal to the country, according to local sports authorities.
