(Prensa Latina) The massacre of five farmers, the murder of three policemen and the assassination of a former guerrilla in the department of Cauca marked on Sunday another violent weekend in Colombia.
Defense Minister Diego Molano confirmed that a special criminal investigation team is working to capture those responsible for the murder of the three patrolmen.
The policemen were shot dead on Saturday in a bar in the town of Pailitas, in the northern department of Cesar, in an attack by unidentified armed individuals initially described as paid assassins, according to reports.
Meanwhile, in the village of La Sierra in the municipality of San Vicente del Caguan, Caqueta department, armed individuals killed five farmers.
A former guerrilla woman in the process of reincorporation was murdered on Friday, which brings to nine the number of former lady combatants killed in Colombia since the signing of the Peace Agreement in 2016.
Since the signing of the Peace Agreement between the government of Juan Manuel Santos, on behalf of the State, and the FARC-EP, 277 former guerrillas have been killed, and 28 so far in 2021.
Despite the signed pact, Colombia is experiencing a spiral of violence, accentuated in the last two months during the national strike with a death toll of more than 70, according to human rights organizations, most of them at the hands of the security forces.
