Ecuador would sign a new agreement with the IMF in August of this year, announces Minister of Finance

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Simón Cueva, announced that Ecuador is preparing an economic program to negotiate a new agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), in August of this year. For this, you would be thinking of withdrawing some tax exemptions and deductions.

Cueva said that the Government is working closely with multilateral organizations, including that part of the money to pay for vaccines comes from these sources of financing, for which, a new agreement with the IMF would be sought until August of this year. .

“We plan to close a full economic program by the end of August. An agreement with an international organization that ensures financing in good conditions to cover the needs of the Treasury ”.

Given this, Cueva explained that an economic program is being developed in order to improve tax collection and apply measures that allow the country to obtain higher income, such as targeting the fuel subsidy.

On the other hand, he pointed out that the debts that the Government currently maintains amount to USD 2,700 million, but the pertinent steps are being taken to pay these obligations. In addition, he assured that, when he names all the IESS authorities, they will initiate the dialogues to cover the pending items.
