Ecuador receives new shipment with 108,810 doses of Pfizer

A new batch with 108,810 doses of Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine arrived at the Mariscal Sucre airport in Quito, on the afternoon of this Tuesday, June 15, 2021.

This is the seventeenth shipment that Ecuador receives, as part of the negotiations with the US pharmaceutical company, for six million doses.

The drug arrived around 3:00 p.m. today and, so far, 1,427,469 doses have arrived from this laboratory alone, according to figures from the Ministry of Health.

In addition, the ministry reported that these doses will be used in phase 2 of the 9/100 Vaccination Plan called: “We take care”, in which it is planned to inoculate the population aged 50 to 64, according to the weekly schedule and according to the corresponding age; as well as people from 16 to 49 years old, in serious conditions, with chronic diseases or disability greater than 50%; and workers in strategic sectors.

With this delivery, Ecuador currently has a total of 4,311,469 doses from the three pharmaceutical companies (Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Sinovac) with which there are negotiations.

According to Health, until June 13, nationwide, 3,081,172 doses have been applied, of which 2’043,159 are first doses and 1’038,013 second doses.

On the other hand, regarding the CanSino vaccine, with which 6 million doses were negotiated, this Tuesday the National Agency for Health Regulation, Control and Surveillance (Arcsa) authorized the entry of the vaccine into the country, based on international studies and its proven efficacy against COVID-19.
