Students and workers protested in rejection of the increase in fuel prices in Ecuador

On the afternoon of Thursday, June 10, 2021, students, teachers and workers protested against the increase in fuel prices.

The consecutive rise in the cost of fuels, since May 2020, was not the only complaint. Teachers demand the reopening of schools.

“We tell this government to stop the implementation of the neoliberal measures that are impoverishing the popular sectors, to stop playing with the education of our children,” said Isabel Vargas, president of the UNE.

Vargas announced that next June 14 they will demand respect for the reforms approved to the Organic Law of Intercultural Education (LOEI), which establishes the salary increase for teachers, among other measures, which cannot yet be executed due to a demand of unconstitutionality.
