Court will discuss petition to jail Peru’s Keiko Fujimori

(Prensa Latina) A judge summoned a hearing for next Monday to discuss a petiton for the pre-trial arrest of presidential candidate Keiko Fujimori for violating, according to a district attorney, the rules of probation in which she is being held.

Judge Victor Zuñiga, whose office specializes in organized crime cases, quickly processed the request filed by District Attorney Jose Perez for incarcerating Fujimori again, who, according to the official tally which is about to end, lost the election to left wing candidate Pedro Castillo.

Perez argued that Fujimori violated the rule of probation with appearance (conditional), which prohibits her from having contacts with other defendants and witnesses of an investigation for money laundering and other crimes, after which the district attorney requested 30 years and 10 months in prison for her and other sentences for another 41 defendants.

District Attorney Perez has investigated Fujimori for over two years and completed his investigation in March and filed his formal accusation against her and her co-defendants for money laundering, obstruction of justice and other crimes.

On the other hand, National Attorney General Zoraida Avalos called on the Ministry of Interior to provide security to Perez, after he denounced threatening calls from Fujimori’s followers and her ‘Fuerza Popular’ (Popular Force) party to meet in front of his house to harass him.
