(Prensa Latina) The airspace over this Swiss city will be restricted from June 15 to 17 during the summit between the presidents of the United States and Russia, local media reported on Friday.
US President Joe Biden and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, will meet at Villa La Grange, on Wednesday, June 16, local authorities confirmed on Thursday.
In order to guarantee security, the Federal Council approved the temporary restriction of the airspace in Geneva, the Government announced in a communique that explained that commercial flights to and from this city’s international airport would not be affected.
The venue of the bilateral summit was disclosed on Thursday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the local Government in their official Twitter accounts, while the press noted that a major security operation has been underway in that area since early this week.
Authorities apologized to local people due to the restrictions that will be imposed during the meeting between the two leaders, including that traffic will be prohibited on the streets and avenues surrounding the site of the meeting, according to RTS television station.
