The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) and the Risk Management Secretariat will prepare a nationwide study to determine how many people acquired immunity to the coronavirus either because they were infected or received the vaccine.
According to the authorities, this will allow the Government to no longer apply new general confinements to combat the coronavirus, but perhaps limited to a canton or parish.
José Ruales, Vice Minister of Health, explained that the study will be a kind of census of seropositivity through which samples will be taken in all the cantons of the country.
The official pointed out that this will allow prioritizing populations with low immunity.
Ruales added that the pharmaceutical company Pfizer has been asked to expand the provision of vaccines and added that these will be aimed at the adolescent population with a universe of more than 3 million.
With regard to the situation in health homes, the vice minister indicated that, on a national scale, there is a decrease, which seems sustained, in the last three weeks, both in the number of cases and in the number of deaths, and that there is a relief in hospital occupancy, although it remains high in the central and northern Sierra, as well as the demand for care.
When asked about new confinements, he asserted that if this were the case, it would be in more limited, specific territories, in cantons or urban parishes, but not in the provinces because they do not expect to take massive measures.
He reiterated that biosecurity measures must be maintained and indicated that less than 5% of the population has been vaccinated.
