The Minister of Tourism announced that this Government will not continue with the intention that its predecessor had to close the Railroad, but that they are looking for an investor to inject the necessary capital so that this attraction can be reactivated.
Olsen assured that the maintenance of the train costs the country USD 4 million annually and it is currently out of operation, for which they will seek a way to make it operate again urgently.
“We are working to reactivate the train. We are looking for a national or international strategic ally to invest in the train. What is not going to be done is to privatize the train, or sell it ”.
In the same way, he explained that the railroad should be multi-purpose, that is why it would be tried to also operate in the transport of cargo, in the transfer of passengers and as a tourist attraction.
“What we are looking for is a successful model as in other countries, one of the figures could be a public-private alliance, it is a figure very similar to a concession, but we are still in conversation with several national and international companies that are interested in this deal “
On the other hand, he indicated that when he arrived at the Ministry of Tourism he did not find any plan, project or planning on the offer that former President Moreno made of a beach train that connects the coastal provinces.
