Group of Brazilian artists call for Bolsonaro’s destitution

(Prensa Latina) At least 15 renowned figures from Brazilian television, music, literature and social networks signed a new request for the removal from power of President Jair Bolsonaro, presented in the Chamber of Deputies, as per legislative sources.

Signatories to the impeachment request include presenter Xuxa, online inspirator Felipe Neto, comedian Fabio Porchat, and sportscaster and former soccer player Walter Casagrande Junior.

The group represents the movement called Brazilian Lives, which brings together people without partisan ties and calls for Bolsonaro’s deposition ‘for his disastrous conduct in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic’ that has claimed nearly 450,000 deaths and over 16 million infections to date.

The request lists a series of acts by the president that would be violating the Constitution and would constitute a crime of responsibility, such as the dissemination of false information.

The group also cites the crowds convened by Bolsonaro, the rejection of the use of masks and measures such as quarantine, social distancing and the fact that Bolsonaro downplayed the importance of the vaccine.

The expectation of the members of the movement is to mobilize civil society in favor of positive pressure so that this is not another impeachment request ignored by Arthuer Lira, president of the Chamber (of Deputies), the group indicated in a statement.

To this moment, 117 requests for impeachment have been filed against the president, but have been useless so far.
