The Government of Ecuador expresses its concern about the escalation of violence taking place in Israel, Gaza and Jerusalem.
According to France 24, at least 65 people, including 16 minors, have died in Gaza since the violence escalated on May 10, the enclave’s Health Ministry confirmed on Wednesday. In addition, six people were killed in Israel after the massive rocket fire by Hamas, medical officials on the ground said.
Ecuador, in a statement, pointed out that it is essential to dispense with causing any harm to the civilian population, and respect the life and safety of people, in accordance with the provisions of international humanitarian law.
“The hostility between the parties – which has led to destruction and death – is unacceptable, especially if the two nations are obliged to comply with the norms of international law,” the document says.
Ecuador made a call to stop the spiral of violence as soon as possible and reiterates its conviction of the right of both parties to live in peace and with dignity.
Likewise, it calls, urgently, to find a peaceful and lasting solution to this conflict, which will lead to creating the conditions to establish an environment of peace and security.
For several days, Israel carried out dozens of air strikes in Gaza until this Wednesday morning, after the Islamist group and other Palestinian militants fired hundreds of rockets at Tel Aviv and the southern city of Beer Sheva.
