(Prensa Latina) The National Strike Committee will hold today a meeting in the city of Cali to analyze the future of the demonstrations in Colombia and evaluate this stage of demands that began last April 28th.
It is expected that citizens that will participate in these mobilizations will express their support for the population of Cali, which has been militarized by orders of President Ivan Duque.
The decision to hold this meeting came last Monday after a failed dialogue between the president and representatives of the National Strike Committee.
Several social sectors that make up this group spent four hours meeting with President Duque ‘in an exploratory meeting in which no agreement was reached.’
According to a statement from the Committee, at the meeting they expressed with clarity and ad nauseam ‘the demand to stop state and parastatal violence against those of us who have been protesting since last April 28th.’
They also demanded to demilitarize the protest and provide guarantees to exercise it without the risk of losing one’s life, physical integrity or liberty.
According to the Committee’s statement on this demand, the president, as the general commander of the armed forces, did not promise to stop the barbarism that the whole world is witnessing.
