Bolivia to receive over one million Sinopharm vaccines

(Prensa Latina) Bolivia’s Deputy Minister of Communication Gabriela Alcon affirmed that the country will receive this week over one million vaccines from Sinopharm’s Chinese company, with which it will advance in the immunization campaign.

On Twitter, Alcon noted that on Tuesday the first shipment arrived with 334,400 doses that will be distributed immediately as part of the national vaccination plan.

In that regard, President Luis Arce recently announced the increase of mass immunization points in the central axis of the country to apply those doses and another 500,000 of the Sputnik V vaccine from Russia as they are received and distributed.

In addition to this campaign at the domestic level, Bolivia is promoting at the international level an initiative to free the patents of vaccines and facilitate access to them for countries with less economic power.

As confirmed by the Deputy FM Freddy Mamani, there will be inaugurated the High Level International Forum ‘Liberation of Patents and Intellectual Property Considerations on Thursday in Covid-19 times,’ sponsored by Bolivia’s Foreign Ministry, the United Nations Development Program and the Public University of El Alto.
