(Prensa Latina) The Bolivian Alasitas Fair is until today the longest traditional celebration in Covid-19 times, whose annual edition concluded with the sale of miniatures despite the risk of infection by SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.
With the support of the Mayor’s Office of La Paz, organizers extended the event for over 40 days and included two exhibitions on this craft at the Museo Costumbrista Juan de Vargas.
The meeting received thousands of people who attended the facilities of the Central Urban Park of this city to obtain all kinds of plaster, ceramic and wood crafts.
From the beginning of the fair, the artisans followed sanitary protocols such as the obligatory use of facemasks and the installation of disinfection chambers, although the crowds in the different sectors were evident.
In January, the festival was postponed due to the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, for the first time in its history, it was not held on the traditional date.
Despite the context, the National Federation of Artisans and Exhibitors of the Fair, once again summoned artisans from 66 sectors, who appealed for the economic reactivation at the end of March.
This event achieved its annual edition in person, unlike other very popular celebrations, such as the Carnival of Oruro, which honored the fatal victims of the pandemic virtually.
