Violence against Colombian people rejected from France

(Prensa Latina) Manuel Salamanca, member of the Colombian Communist Party, condemned on Friday in Paris the bloody repression of the Government of President Ivan Duque against popular mobilizations in the South American country in demand of social improvements.

Salamanca, who is currently living in France, told Prensa Latina that the Colombian people are in the streets tired of the unpopular measures taken by the executive, which tried to impose a tax reform with a severe impact on the middle class and the most vulnerable persons.

The current conflict -he added- will mark a new stage, due to the violence the government has unleashed against the protesters, with a toll of more than 25 deaths and hundreds of disappeared, injured and detained, with figures that differ according to the sources.

Colombians’ anger comes from decades of hardships and frustrations, stoked by a government that Salamanca denounced as representative of the extreme right.

To define Duque’s management, we can summarize it in two objectives: to bury the peace accords with the FARC-EP and the full subordination to the aggressive policies of the United States in Latin America, he warned.

Salamanca highlighted the rejection in France and Europe to the repression and assessed the importance of the international solidarity with the Colombian people in its aspirations for peace and social welfare.
