Guayaquil registers the first case of the Brazilian variant of COVID-19, according to the SARS-CoV-2 genomic surveillance report, carried out by the Universidad Espíritu Santo.
According to the study, seven cases of the English variant B.1.1.7 and two cases of the Andean variant C.37 were also recorded in Guayaquil.
The report also recorded two cases of reinfection of the New York variant in patients from the city of Guayaquil.
In the city of Cuenca, the investigation recorded the first case of the New York variant and an infection with the variant B.1.526, in a neonate with severe symptoms.
These findings were warned by the Minister of Health, Camilo Salinas Ochoa, through his Twitter account.
