The disorganization outside the inoculation points, older adults waiting, in the rain, for a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while other desperate people look for an appointment. For these reasons, the Ombudsman’s Office filed a protection action against the Ministry of Health.
“We are demanding that the judge declare the violation of rights and, as a measure of reparation, determine an adequate process so that citizens can be vaccinated and prioritize the elderly, people with disabilities and with catastrophic diseases,” said the Deputy defender, Zaida Rovira Jurado, when presenting the appeal this Thursday, April 29, 2021.
Another demand, she said, is that there be another way, apart from the website, for the registration of older adults “due to the gap they have with digital media.”
The Ombudsman’s Office requests that the Ministry of Health be ordered to redesign the vaccination plan and that the corresponding priority be given to the elderly.
In addition, it asks that the vaccination points be increased, that they be in wide spaces and that people treated with dignity.
“Let’s not see what happens every day: crowds of older adults for hours, in the rain. This public policy violates human rights and that is what we are demanding ”, she explained.
