(Prensa Latina) Brazil will receive Thursday the first batch of one million of Pfizer/BioNtech vaccine doses.
According to CNN Brasil television, the vaccines had to leave Belgium on April 26 and could arrive at the Viracopos Airport, in the Campinas municipality, São Paulo.
Such batch came from an agreement signed between Brazil´s Health Ministry and Pfizer pharmaceutical company in March for the acquisition of 100 million doses before the end of the third quarter.
‘We managed to anticipate, in the previously planned schedule, of the 100 million doses, two million of Pfizer vaccine doses that will reinforce our vaccination schedule,’ Marcelo Queiroga, Health Minister said.
Pfizer vaccine is registered for permanent use by the National Sanitary Surveillance Agency (ANVISA). Immunization can be applied in people 16 years of age or older, in two doses, with an interval of 21 days.
So far, the two vaccines that are being applied in Brazil are those developed by the University of Oxford (UK) in association with the Anglo-Swedish company AstraZeneca and CoronaVac, from the Chinese biopharmaceutical company Sinovac.
At the moment, negotiations with Pfizer Company did not include know-how transfer, so it will not be manufactured in national territory.
