At least five dead and 15 injured after bomb attack in Pakistan

The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack in the city of Quetta.

At least five deaths and 15 injuries are reported after the explosion of a car bomb in the city of Quetta outside the Serena Hotel shortly before the arrival of the Chinese ambassador to Pakistan, Nong Rong, who apparently would be the target of the attack.

The bomb exploded before (the ambassador) arrived, said Quetta Police spokesman Asad Khan. He also reported that it was a powerful explosion: “40 or 50 kilos of explosives were used in the detonation.”

So far, it is not clear whether the Chinese ambassador or members of his delegation were the target of the bomb attack.

“It was a suicide attack in which our suicide bomber used his car full of explosives at the hotel,” wrote a spokesman for the militant group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
