More than 330,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine would arrive in Ecuador on Saturday

Through the Covax mechanism, 336,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine are expected to arrive in the country this Saturday.

As part of its schedule, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has scheduled the shipment to Jamaica for Saturday as well. At the moment, the supplies would be in the transit zone.

Days ago, Jarbas Barbosa, deputy director of PAHO, commented that nine countries in America, including Ecuador, would receive compensation since in the first round of shipment they had a reduced number of doses (in March, the country received only 84,000) .

With the Covax initiative, the country will obtain 7’057,200 doses. Until May it is expected to receive 756,000; 379,080 through June; and the remaining 5,922,120 later. In total, the country will receive more than 20 million doses following agreements with pharmaceutical companies.

The official urged to reject the purchase of any vaccine that is offered over the Internet, due to the risk it generates for health.
