This April 15, 2021, Ecuador registers a new peak of daily infections. In the last 24 hours, 4,892 new cases were confirmed, adding a total of 355,431 infected nationwide.
According to the latest report from the Ministry of Health there are 17,489 deaths: 12,541 people who died with a positive diagnosis and 4,948 suspected of carrying the virus.
Hospital occupation breaks another record. This Thursday there are 1,769 hospitalized: 1,168 stable and 601 with a reserved prognosis. Figures never before recorded. Nationwide there are 395 people waiting for a bed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
It is 21 days with a sustained increase in patients who need hospitalization. The collapse in health units causes the mortality rate to rise as well.
While the total of those recovered is 298,604 since the pandemic began, which represents 86.10% of the total infected.
Pichincha adds 1,869 infections and 19 more deaths in the last 24 hours. In total, the province has 123,832 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 2,966 deaths. Quito adds 1,671 more infected and amounts to 114,404 diagnosed with the virus.
In Ecuador, the British and Brazilian variants circulate, which according to published studies, is more aggressive and has a greater ease of contagion.
