Ecuador registers more than 1,600 people hospitalized by COVID-19 for 12 consecutive days

Ecuador registers 2,015 new infections and 58 more deaths in the last 24 hours. This Thursday, April 8, 2021, the country has 341,619 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and passed the 17 thousand deaths due to the pandemic.

In the latest report from the Ministry of Health, 12,208 people died with a positive diagnosis and 4,907 died with suspicion of carrying the respiratory virus.

The hospital occupation continues to the limit. For the twelfth consecutive day, there are more than 1,600 patients. This Thursday, 1,098 stable hospitalized patients and 582 with a reserved prognosis were registered, adding a total of 1,680 hospitalized in one day. While 87 more people were discharged from hospital.

In Quito, for example, the IESS Quito Sur Hospital is at 130% of its capacity and receives around 300 patients with symptoms every day. The waiting list for beds in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) exceeds 80 people.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 290,314 recovered patients in the country, representing 86.49% of the total infected.
