(Prensa Latina) Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (FIOCRUZ) will hand over 1.37 million anti-Covid-19 vaccine doses developed by the University of Oxford (UK) and the Anglo- Swedish AstraZeneca company to the Brazilian Health Ministry.
With this new batch, the foundation, Latin America´s largest scientific research center, exceeds 3.8 million doses expected, reaching 4.2 million.
Other shipments guaranteed 1.8 million vaccine doses through last week, plus 1.4 million on Wednesday.
CNN Brazil television station reported that, despite April´s agenda, Mauricio Zuma, director of the Institute of Technology in Immunobiologicals, announced that a weekly schedule is being worked on.
‘We set that we would deliver 3.8 million doses by the last week of March,’ he added.
FIOCRUZ is expected to deliver 18.8 million vaccine doses in April.
Mauricio Zuma explained that increased vaccine production should be seen as of April 12, as each batch takes about three weeks to be approved by quality control.
The raw material guaranteed so far guarantees the production of 28 million vaccine doses. New imports are planned for this month. ‘We work hard to ensure vaccine doses at such a difficult time. There is no lack of commitment, only that the production of biological products has changes,’ said Zuma.
