(Prensa Latina) Law students from Brazilian universities simultaneously submitted over 35 impeachment petitions against President Jair Bolsonaro to the Chamber of Deputies, a website created for his removal confirmed on Thursday.
The web page www.impeachmentbolsonaro.net claims that the mobilization was made up of XI de Agosto School, the National Law Students Federation and CADir UnB (Law School of the University of Brasilia) and was supported by volunteer lawyers.
According to these institutions, ‘liability crimes must be massively denounced. Mass removal so that Brazil can overcome the biggest threat to democracy and fundamental rights of the last 30 years!,’ they said.
The exoneration of the head of State has gained momentum in the past few days due to the resignation of ministers and commanders of the Armed Forces, as well as the worsening of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has killed over 320,000 people in the country so far.
When submitting the petition in this capital, the students raised a 20-meter banner in front of the National Congress, with the message: ‘Law students for impeachment.’
The group created a website with a platform to send emails to pressure the 341 members of Parliament who have not spoken in favor of the president’s dismissal.
On Wednesday, opposition leaders at Congress also submitted an impeachment petition against Bolsonaro to the Lower House.
In a statement, the signatories of the document maintain that the president committed a liability crime when ‘trying, in an authoritarian way, to use Brazil’s military forces for personal interests, a clear threat to democracy.’
