(Prensa Latina) Paraguay on Wednesday asked the World Health Organization (WHO) to expedite the Covax vaccine shipment to the country.
In a virtual meeting with WHO´s high-ranking authorities, Paraguay´s Parliament expressed its deep concern about the delays of Covax vaccine doses in completing the agreed numbers of vaccines to be sent to the nation.
Paraguayan Foreign Minister Euclides Acevedo and Minister of Public Health and Social Welfare Julio Borba asked WHO´s Director Tedros Ghebreyesus and PAHO´S Director Carissa Etienne to expedite Covax vaccine shipment to the country.
Ghebreyesus and Etienne, on the other hand, said that AstraZeneca’s production is still below regional nations´ demand, including Paraguay that received 36,000 doses on March 19.
Local sources reported that the arrival of 64,000 remaining vaccine doses to complete a 100,000 total is slated for April and May.
