(Prensa Latina) As of today, Brazilian government will grant a new emergency relief in four installments for informal and non-fixed income self-employees, in order to ease the financial situation of Brazilian families due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The four installments, ranging from R$150 (USD26) to R$375 (USD66), will be given to those who received this benefit in December 2020.
‘It is one more debt of the Union. It is a bill that remains for us and for future generations,’ President Jair Bolsonaro recently said, admitting that the relief value is too low.
He acknowledged that the emergency relief is not enough for a Brazilian family, but ‘it is what the nation can provide to its population.’
He also pointed out that the Covid-19 social effects cannot be more detrimental than the virus itself.
The president, who hinted that this would be the last relief, harped on: ‘we cannot continue with the financial relief so as not to compromise our economy.’ In this regard, the Minister of Citizenship João Roma stressed that the relief is just a ‘breath of fresh air for the Brazilian people’ and is not the solution to the economic problems generated by the pandemic.
Last week, former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said the government must continue granting R$600 (USD106) for people in vulnerable situations, as it began in early 2020.
‘We have to guarantee the emergency relief so that people can stay home and eat, as well as micro-entrepreneurs remain open and operating,’ he said.
