Bolivia is cautious about border closure due to Covid-19

(Prensa Latina) Bolivian Minister of Health Jeyson Auza on Tuesday said that his country does not rule out a possible border closure due to a new Covid-19 strain, but always based on serious epidemiological reports.
In an interview with PAT news network, Auza stressed that, for the past few days, he has been in charge of an epidemiological containment plan in the border with measures to fight the pandemic.

He spoke about measures such as immunizing border populations, strengthening the health system of those areas with equipment, drugs, PCR tests, vaccines and specialized human resources.

On the revision of a border closure, the minister confirmed the drafting of a decree that provides for this possibility, only when epidemiological data and serious reports show this need, La Razon daily reported.

Auza’s statement respond to former government authorities’ demands to close the borders, especially with Brazil, after detecting a new coronavirus strain there.

Therefore, he said that due to the increase in cases, they are implementing an epidemiological containment plan in border areas, but based on serious reports, not opinions.
