At least seven provinces of Ecuador have been affected by the heavy rains registered in recent days, which have left families affected and structural damage.
During the weekend, several floods were reported in provinces such as Loja, Guayas, Manabí and El Oro. In Loja, for example, due to the overflow of the Malacatos River, on the night of Saturday, March 13, the authorities declared an emergency in this province. .
The intense rains in El Oro caused flooding in homes in the Chilla canton and in the rural parish of El Retiro, Machala, in a province also hit by constant landslides that daily disable the roads of cantons such as Piñas and Atahualpa.
Given the damages, the Municipality of Chilla declared an emergency last Friday, March 12.
Nabón, Cuenca canton, was another of the places declared in emergency, after simultaneous landslides that have seriously affected the canton.
In this province, in addition, the Cuenca-Molleturo-El Empalme road was affected, after a sinkhole, due to the storm.
On the other hand, landslides were also recorded in Pichincha, causing the blocking of roads such as the Aloag – Unión del Toachi or the Aloag – Santo Domingo road.
In Manabí, at least 80 families from La Pila parish, in Montecristi, were affected due to flooding in their homes. While in Carchi, around 50 homes were flooded on Sunday afternoon in the city of San Gabriel.
