Political trial against former Ecuadorian health minister already has a schedule

The Oversight Commission approved the work schedule to substantiate the impeachment against the former Minister of Health, Juan Carlos Zevallos, for the failure to fulfill his duties in the vaccination plan.

The Commission decided to unify the two impeachment requests presented by Ángel Sinmaleza (SUMA) and Pabel Muñoz (RC).

There are nine causes that accompany the trial presented by Muñoz: the shortage of biosafety supplies; insufficient acquisition of diagnostic tests; do not make transparent figures of deaths in excess; lose bodies of people who died during the health emergency; the disengagement of health personnel in the midst of the pandemic; lack of control of executing units of the Ministry of Public Health; shortages of vaccines and medicines during the pandemic; irregular issuance of disability cards; and the insufficient acquisition of vaccines against COVID-19 and the alteration of the vaccination plan.

While Sinmaleza started it for three reasons: mismanagement of the pandemic, irregularities in disability cards and the vaccination process.

According to the approved schedule, from March 31st they will receive the proofs of charge and discharge. In addition, they agree to summon some of those who have already received the doses, such as former president Osvaldo Hurtado, journalist Diego Oquendo, and the ministers of Energy, René Ortiz, and of Tourism, Rosi Prado. The final report would be ready for April 29, to then go to the Plenary of the Legislative.

Zevallos left the country a day after his resignation, amid complaints for benefiting with COVID-19 vaccines to family, friends, journalists and other characters who were not part of the zero phase of vaccination
