The former Minister of Health, Catalina Andramuño, will no longer be the subject of a political trial by the National Assembly for the irregularities in the issuance of disability cards. The official resigned from her position on March 21, 2020.
This Tuesday, March 23, 2021, the Health Commission of the National Assembly presented the report on the case of fraudulent delivery of disability cards in the country and there it was learned that Catalina Andramuño will no longer have a political trial.
Andramuño will not be subject to a political trial because Article 131 of the Constitution establishes that this type of request only proceeds “during the exercise of her position and up to one year after termination.” The former Minister of Health resigned on March 21, 2020.
William Garzón, president of the Health Commission, regretted that the report of this case took up to 5 months to reach the plenary session. The document recommends the start of a political trial against Juan Carlos Zeballos, third Minister of Health in the Lenín Moreno government.
During the debate on this report, several legislators described as “hypocrisy” that the document took so long to reach the plenary session and free Andramuño from the legislature’s judgment.
