(Prensa Latina) The National Bolivarian Armed Forces (FANB) captured 32 Colombian irregular soldiers in an operation carried out in the border state of Apure, the Ministry of Defense of Venezuela reported in a statement on Monday.
Units of Los Llanos Strategic Comprehensive Defense Region engaged in clashes with armed groups from Colombia on Sunday, in which one of its leaders – El Nando – was neutralized.
FANB troops also destroyed six camps and confiscated weapons, munitions, explosives, war supplies, vehicles and drugs.
The military high command mourned the death of Major Edward Ramon Corobo Segovia and First Lieutenant Yonathan Miguel Duarte in the clashes, and several soldiers from the Venezuelan Army were injured, and received duly medical assistance.
Military units, supported by state security organizations, continue persecution operations of the irregular soldiers in the area, a statement by the Ministry of Defense stresses.
FANB reiterated strict compliance with the order given by President Nicolas Maduro, of having zero tolerance with these criminal groups, as well as the commitment to fight transnational paramilitary crimes and drug trafficking.
In this regard, he guaranteed the deployment of all available operational capacities to ensure national peace, sovereignty and independence.
